HostGator vs. Bluehost: compare the plan, not just the promotion
Compare the commitment, support channel and renewal terms before choosing shared hosting for a WordPress site.
Start with the job your hosting must do
For a small WordPress publication, write down how many sites you will run, how much storage they use and who will maintain them. Choose a plan against that list rather than treating every feature in a marketing bundle as necessary. This is a comparison of published information, not a speed test or a customer-support trial.
Both providers' reviewed plan pages advertise WordPress migration tools. Ask what the tool transfers and whether email, DNS and manual work are included before you budget around a free move. Keep an independent copy of your site until the new installation is verified.
Match the bill and the support channel
Bluehost's reviewed Starter listing showed $3.99 per month for a 36-month introductory term, renewing at $9.99 per month. That initial hosting component is $143.64 before tax and extras, not a $3.99 month-to-month commitment. HostGator's retrieved page displayed unresolved price placeholders, so we do not quote a rate or name a cheaper provider.
The reviewed entry listings advertise chat support; Bluehost Starter explicitly excludes phone support. If telephone help matters to you, check the exact tier rather than assuming every plan includes it. Ask a practical pre-sales question about your own site and assess whether the answer is clear.
Decide using the missing details
Request a quote for the same billing period from both hosts. Record the renewal total, backup schedule and retention, restore process, domain renewal and any email trial that becomes paid. An included feature is useful only when its limits fit your work.
Both providers publish conditional refund terms. Do not treat a headline guarantee as covering every checkout item, monthly service or renewal. Read the linked policy and checkout terms before paying. CouponTreasure currently runs on HostGator; that fact is not a controlled comparison or proof that it is the best choice.
- Compare identical billing periods and the full initial charge.
- Confirm the support channel for your selected tier.
- Ask how to restore a backup, not just whether backups exist.
- Remove unwanted extras and save the renewal terms.
