Bluehost vs. SiteGround: backups, website limits and renewal costs
Compare entry-level hosting without mistaking a one-year offer for the same commitment as a three-year offer.
Two introductory prices, different commitments
The reviewed Bluehost Starter offer uses a 36-month introductory term; SiteGround StartUp uses a 12-month prepaid term. Comparing the monthly equivalents alone hides how much cash is committed and when the first renewal arrives. Use the dated snapshot in our hosting comparison hub, then verify your own checkout.
For a fair budget comparison, choose a common planning horizon. Add each initial payment, any renewals during that period and required extras. Do not assume today's renewal quote is guaranteed indefinitely. A longer prepaid term can reduce flexibility even when its advertised monthly equivalent looks attractive.
Match capacity and recovery to your workflow
The reviewed Starter listing allows 10 websites and lists weekly backups; SiteGround StartUp lists one website and daily backups. SiteGround lists staging with GrowBig and above. These are published plan details, not measured reliability results, and the exact purchase terms should be rechecked.
Website count is not a promise that every site can run a resource-heavy store. Check storage, database and resource limits against your actual installation. For backups, ask about retention, restoration access and whether a restore includes both files and the database. A frequently updated store may need a different recovery plan from a static portfolio.
Choose the tradeoff you can sustain
If you only need one site, unused capacity should not dominate your decision. If you manage several sites, compare the tier that actually covers them rather than forcing the entry plans into an unequal comparison.
Use the official refund sources before purchasing. Product exclusions and renewal treatment differ, so a general 30-day headline is not enough to compare cancellation risk. We have not benchmarked either service or ranked their support quality.
- Use the same budget horizon for both hosts.
- Select a tier that covers your real website count.
- Confirm backup retention and restore access.
- Read product-specific refund and renewal conditions.
