IKEA or Wayfair: compare the complete furniture purchase
Use dimensions, complete parts, delivery and return logistics to compare furniture—not just the product photo.
Build a specification before a shortlist
Write down the maximum width, depth and height your room allows, then measure the delivery route. Include doorways, stairs and tight corners. Two furniture listings can look alike while using different materials, support systems or dimensions.
Treat IKEA and Wayfair as options to research against that specification, not as interchangeable catalogs. Read the exact listing and its assembly instructions where available. If a required measurement is missing, ask the retailer before ordering.
Price a usable result
For each option, list the product, separately required components, delivery or transport, assembly and any accessories needed for safe use. A modular configuration should include every selected piece. A delivery service should be compared by what it actually includes rather than its name alone.
Account for your time and physical ability to transport and assemble the item. The lower sticker price may not be the lower practical cost if it requires a vehicle rental or a service you did not budget for.
Plan the return before the delivery
Return eligibility and an easy return are different things. Review the current official policy linked from each store guide, including item exceptions, condition requirements and transport charges. Keep the relevant packaging until you understand the process.
Before choosing, imagine the item arriving in the wrong size. Identify who you would contact, how it would leave your home and what documentation you would need. This exercise can reveal costs that a sale headline hides.
- Match dimensions, materials and included components.
- Compare delivered and assembled totals.
- Confirm the delivery service level.
- Plan packaging and transport for a possible return.
