STORE COMPARISONS
Perfumania, Sephora or Ulta: how to compare a fragrance purchase
Match the bottle, compare the delivered cost and think about returns before choosing a fragrance retailer.
Start with one exact fragrance
Write down the fragrance name, concentration and volume before opening several store listings. Eau de parfum and eau de toilette are not an equal comparison simply because the names look similar. A travel spray, tester and full presentation box may also serve different purposes, especially for a gift.
These three store guides are starting points for comparison, not a ranking or a claim that one retailer always has the lowest price. Stock, price and offer eligibility must be checked for your chosen item.
Separate useful value from extras
For the same bottle, compare the payment due after eligible discounts, shipping and tax. For a gift set, list the size of every component and count only the items you or the recipient will use. Future rewards and gifts with purchase belong in a separate column; they do not reduce today's charge.
If a larger bottle looks cheaper per ounce, ask whether you will use it and whether you already know the scent. A lower unit price is not a reason to commit to an unsuitable fragrance.
Consider whether you may need to return it
Condition requirements can matter more than a small price difference when buying an unfamiliar scent. Our linked store guides summarize the official return sources and their review date. Read the retailer's current policy before opening the packaging, and use the rules for the channel where you purchase.
- Match scent, concentration, volume and packaging.
- Compare the same delivery destination and eligible code.
- Keep rewards separate from the cash total.
- Check condition requirements and the return deadline before opening.
