HostGator vs. SiteGround: what to check before choosing or moving
Compare plan scope, WordPress workflow and migration responsibilities before committing to a hosting change.
Define a reason to choose or move
A hosting decision should begin with a requirement: a new website, a recovery workflow, a needed feature or a documented problem. A new-customer offer alone does not establish that moving an existing site will save money or improve its performance.
CouponTreasure currently uses HostGator. We disclose that context, but we have not run equivalent sites on both providers or performed a controlled speed or uptime comparison. This guide evaluates published plan information and practical questions, not measured winners.
Compare equivalent tiers
HostGator's reviewed Hatchling listing permits 10 websites; SiteGround StartUp permits one. SiteGround advertises daily backups and places staging in its GrowBig and higher tiers. Compare the plan that meets your workflow rather than assuming the cheapest named tier is comparable across providers.
Our fetched HostGator page did not expose usable price figures. Obtain the actual initial and renewal totals at checkout before comparing it with SiteGround's quoted offer. Add domain renewal, email, backups or other required services instead of treating every introductory inclusion as permanent.
Make migration a checklist, not an assumption
Ask each provider whether your particular site is eligible for its advertised migration option. Separate the website files and database from domain registration, DNS and email. A website transfer does not by itself establish that every related service will move.
Before changing hosting, keep a verified backup and a record of the current DNS and mail configuration. Test the destination site's pages, forms, HTTPS and scheduled tasks before retiring the old service. Budget for an overlap period if needed and confirm the cancellation timing. These are planning steps, not an instruction to move your current site.
- Identify the actual problem a move would solve.
- Match website count and required management features.
- Get written scope for the migration you need.
- Keep the old service until the replacement is verified.
